How to Use Vinegar to Clean Your Floors, Windows, and More!

We have all heard of vinegar.  It's a solution that is mostly used for cooking (I always ask for vinegar in my Subway sandwiches).  But, did you know it is also a very useful product to have around the home to clean certain areas?  Read more to find out!

I first heard of vinegar as a cleaning solution while using Windex to clean some mirrors in a customer's home a long time ago.  It was a type of Windex that had vinegar as an ingredient.  It caught my attention at the moment, but not enough to look further into it.

It wasn't until I had a conversation with a long-time customer that I realized that vinegar is actually a very effective cleaner.  You see, the customer noted that we could use vinegar to clean certain areas around her home.  So, I decided to do my own research; I also, asked Juanita and this is what I found.
  • Vinegar is an excellent solution for window washing.  (I should've taken the hint when I saw that Windex was using it as an ingredient in one of it's products.  LOL).  All you have to do is mix equal amounts of vinegar to water (you can use an old spray bottle) and voila!  Your very own homemade window cleaner!
  • Vinegar is great to clean your coffee maker.  You know difficult coffee stains can be and how much buildup can accumulate in the actual coffee maker.  Well, what you can do is fill the coffee maker with vinegar and run it - just like you would if you were making your coffee.  Once it finishes, you empty the coffee maker glass pot and run it one more time; this time you run a cycle with water.  And, that's it!
  • Vinegar as a floor cleaner.  Wait, what?  Yes!  That's right.  I had  to do very little research for this one, that's because we have A LOT of customers who request that we clean their floors with just water and a bit of vinegar.  Please keep in mind, though, that this solution works ONLY on NO-WAX FLOORS.  All you have to do is mix 1/2 cup of vinegar to a half a gallon of water.  The best thing about it?  It's rinse-free!
  • Microwaves.  Yes, this was MY favorite.  We all know how bad a microwave can get after reheating plate after plate; you know, all the residue on the inside walls and door?  Well, vinegar can do wonders in the microwave, too!  All you have to do is pour 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water in a microwave-safe bowl, place it inside the microwave, and turn it on until it starts to boil.  Then, all you have to do is wipe away the residue.  That easy!
  • Shower doors.  This is a big one.  We often get asked by customers if there's anything that can take away all the accumulated soap scum on their shower doors.  There is, but the cleaning and elimination of all that accumulation is very gradual.  The best bet is to be preventive.  And, here's where vinegar comes in.  All you have to do to avoid soap scum buildup is wipe down shower doors with a sponge fully soaked in vinegar.  That's it!

Well, that's the conclusion of my "research".  You can try using vinegar to clean around the home.  Or, if you're like me, you can continue using it in your food and let Juanita's House Cleaning take care of the cleaning!

We highly recommend: White House Distilled Vinegar (Amazon, $11)
